Congratulations to Rosabella Stephen who was awarded Poetry first prize in the year 3 and 4 section of the Sydney Youth Writing Competition last Wednesday. Rosabella's poem "And I Smile Back" was selected from 40 entries in this section of the competition. All entries had to include the words thunder and lime which is also the title of the book in which all entries were published. A copy was kindly purchased for the school by Rosabella's family. One of her ambitions is to be a published author – so she has already achieved one of her life's goals. Well done Rosie!!
And I Smile Back
Rainbows scatter through the mountains
Clouds I grip let go of doubt and pain
Oh what glorious rain!
A teardrop...
Falling, changing, twirling, making ripples in the air
Tree of life I'm holding onto your branches
Lime the fruit I eat and juice I dare to drink
Wolves howl to the moon and thunder rumbles
Angry to the sky
Then rain, oh what glorious rain!
Singing on your window pane
Then comes the sun smiling at its sunburnt country
And I smile back
