Farewell Mr Fixit

After 25 years of dedicated service to the Bellingen Public School community and the Department of Education, our much loved General Assistant Steve Britcher retired last Thursday. Known to many students as ‘Mr Fixer' Steve was much more than the person who retrieved lost items off the roof, fixed leaky taps or mowed the grass. Over his quarter century at the school Steve transformed what was a rather ordinary blank and bare block, into the beautiful green space that the school community now enjoys. The school grounds are packed with native and bush tucker plants with a couple of rare and exotic ones thrown in too, making it a haven for the 65 species of birds that Steve has catalogued in his time at the school.

Steve was farewelled last Thursday by students, staff and parents, who dressed as Mr Britcher for the day, and parents. His lst day included an action packed session of Lawn Mower Olympics on the oval, morning tea, a BBQ and assembly where he was able to say an emotional goodbye to the school. In his words, "He was completely blown away; you gave me an experience I will remember for the rest of my life."
