Storm Damage Update for Friday November 15

Dear Parents and Carers,

Storm damage to school

The recent storms have caused major damage to the eaves of many of our classroom spaces. The school site and movement around the site is severely restricted.

Today, all students were either moved off-site or into our school hall, with extra supervision.

The arrangements today were:

  • Kindergarten – School Hall
  • Years 1 & 2 – Bellingen Youth Hub (walking)
  • Years 3 & 4 – Bellingen High School (travel by bus)
  • Years 5 & 6 – St Marys Catholic School (walking)

All music lessons were cancelled, but swimming went ahead for years 2 & 3. Students who ordered lunch from our canteen were looked after by Eddy, and his team.

The school is now being inspected, repaired and thoroughly cleaned of any debris. This includes qualified contractors checking for material that may contain asbestos, and putting in place appropriate monitoring and safe clean-up as necessary.

At this stage I anticipate similar arrangements tomorrow, except that years 5 & 6 will be at the Scout Hall.

We will begin the day in the school hall at 9:10am, and meet again at 3:00pm, to finish the day for pick-ups and buses.

Updates to the school routines are provided on our school app (Smartphones), Facebook and our school website.

The school will resume normal operations once I have a Certificate of Clearance. I expect this certificate tomorrow.

Communication is paramount in times of urgency, and we thank all parents and carers who took the time to check our social media sites, rather than ringing our office directly. Be assured, we will be always putting the safety of your child first.

With thanks
