Celebrating Public Education

What a fabulous week it was last week as we all came together to celebrate learning.

The Showcase concert was superb, with so many talented musicians performing. The wonderful Liz Scott led the development of this supported by so many of our wonderful music tutors, who with students across our school each week. (Thank goodness for the very handy donation of the music building to us, from the Dept. of Health, as they refurbished the hospital, a few years back!)

And didn't the hall look wonderful, with every student across the school (383 students) having a piece of their art on display. That came about through the efforts of both teachers: Jackie Lee and Kathy Graydon, working with all our staff.

As I said in my concert closing remarks…what other country school would be able to showcase the strengths and diversity that was on show, on Wednesday night.

And following this success, our wonderful staff prepared you all our traditional community breakfast on Friday morning; many of whom arrived to begin preparations very early in the morning. A special thank you all our staff, such a great team, and to you as community for coming to be part of our school.

What a fantastic array of instrumentalists presented at the Show Case Concert!  A mighty thank you to all performers for preparing so well. The choirs were full of passionate singers and it is this "Whole School" music programme that prepares students to take up playing instruments with ease.

We are fortunate to have our Principal, Mr Ross and the staff of Bellingen Primary, supporting music education and extremely fortunate to have 11 skilled peripatetic Music Teachers visit our school weekly.

It would be rare to find any primary school in our state who could produce a concert with such a range of instrumental and choral music, performed at such a high standard. Thank you teachers.

My highlight was listening to the tone colour produced by the various instruments and watching the faces in the audience appreciating each performance.

Kind regards

Elizabeth Scott, Music Co ordinator
